My first 500 words

My first 500 words. I’m taking the Jeff Goins challenge to write 500 words a day. I consider Jeff to be a good writer and I really appreciate his encouragement and support thru email and via the “Lift,” App. I must admit that writing 500 words a day seems daunting but I feel like I can do it. I hope to parlay this writing into something positive that can be a a glimpse into who I am as a person, Father, Husband, Son, and friend. I’ve always wanted to write but the simple exercise of writing has eluded me for some time. I remember my maternal grandfather, who was a great writer in his own right and someone that I will speak more about later, telling me that “If you learn to write and type you can do anything!” I took that to heart and learned how to type really well in junior High School- Thank’s Mrs Benekin! I feel like I’m still working on the writing piece. I always wondered what it would be like to just sit down and be able to fully articulate my thoughts on paper in such a way that I could actually engage a reader and keep their interest. Whenever I read a good novel I’m always in awe at the authors ability to keep my interest and enlighten in a way that allows me to help others. Obviously the feeling is different for fiction writing than it is for non fiction. I actually would love to write in both areas. I feel like I have a story to tell that others want to hear and could benefit from and I also feel like I have some Fiction in me…deep down in my soul I have an odyssey to talk about that would capture the imagination of an audience whether young or old. Until I figure out what that is I’m going to just W-R-I-T-E! I know I have it in me I just need to pull it out. I don’t want to write a book just to say “I’m published!” I want to let my words cause someone to think about their current condition and how they could improve themselves whether thru realizing their dreams of entrepreneurship or just keeping someone wrapped up in a story that can take them far away from their present situation but bring them back in one piece. I could be rambling on here but I feel like my words are flowing so effortlessly here on the plane – I’m headed to New Media Expo in Las Vegas to spend time with friends and others who are like me wanting to make a difference in the new media environment we find ourselves in..

Everyone is a publisher now and no longer do you have to go to some big publishing house, movie studio, or news bureau to disseminate your thoughts and ideas. We are in the age of the Self Promoted Artist who can wield his or her own power through quality content on any platform as long as they market themselves properly and find their voice….
